New plow shed for Transportation & Infrastructure Renewal – Antigonish
The Antigonish community needed a new TIR plow shed after a fire destroyed its previous garage in January 2014. A.H. Roy & Associates teamed with Bird Construction and Harvey & Associates Architects to deliver a design build approach to construct the new multi-bay plow shed garage & office complex with main offices, lunchroom, locker rooms and shower area. The design for both mechanical and electrical systems was according to the province’s DC350 construction document with state-of-the-art systems. Further, the design consisted of a propane-fuelled in-floor heating system, AHUs and mechanical equipment for oil/lubrication & brine bay equipment. The building’s power system has 100% back-up from a diesel generator set, and lumination is generally achieved using LED lighting on exterior and service bay areas. Also note inclusion of structured cabling & CCTV scheme and connections for all equipment. Mechanical systems were completed for vehicle exhaust, sprinkler, vehicle lubrication, plumbing, ventilation, and fire alarm with an electric fire pump powered from a separate breaker on the generator: all to meet DC350 requirements.
The project was turned over to users in March of 2015. Existing fuel pumps have been reconnected into the new building.
